Decorating Your Bookshelf

Most book lovers own a bookshelf to showcase our beautiful books. However, bookshelves aren't just for books anymore. They're for trinkets, and pop culture items, and anything that shows off your personality.

Everyone has a different way of organizing and decorating their shelves so I thought I'd share some tips of things to decorate your shelves with.

I have two bookshelves next to each other to create one larger bookshelf. My shelves are white KALLAX shelf units from Ikea. Probably the most popular bookshelves that I've seen are the BILLY bookcases which usually come in white, black, dark blue, beige, and dark brown.

Some people organize but series, or genre, or author, etc. There's so many ways of organizing your books. I'm a very visual person, so personally my favorite way or organizing and the way I do it is by color (FYI, these are NOT my shelves, although I wish they were):

What To Put On Your Shelves (Besides Books!)

These shelves are the amazing @emmmabooks' shelves on Booktube/Instagram! (She's the best!)

1. "Fairy Lights" or Christmas Lights

(Or any other kind of lights) that you can hang along your bookshelves are a super fun way to brighten things up. You can use them year round and not just during the holidays. You can get them in a variety of colors, from white to blue to silver to rainbow!

One of Risa Rodil's (RedBubble, Etsy) designs available in postcards, greeting cards, etc.) Prop them up against your books! (Bookmarks work the same way.)

2. Prints or Postcards

I know that may sound weird, but hear me out. There's tons of places online you can buy book themed prints and postcards after your favorite books or series. Some websites that I turn to when I'm in need of new postcards are RedBubble and Etsy. They both have SO many options. (I'm linking some of my favorite shops for them below.)

3. Funko Pop! Figures

This is probably my favorite thing on the list. I love Funko Pops and I have so many. If you color code your shelves like me, it's pretty easy to know where to place your figures (Cinderella is with my blue books, Spider-Man is with my red books, Kermit is with my green books, and so on). My only complaint is that I really wish they made more book Pops because there's barely any. (There are however Book to Movie adaptation Pops, such as Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, and Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children).

You can get Pops on Amazon, Funko.com, HobbyDB, EB Games, Hot Topic, Barnes and Noble, Box Lunch, and many other places.

Available on Amazon!

5. Box Signs!

Box signs do not get nearly enough credit. They're super fun and I love them. These are signs that are shaped like a box so that they are easy to stand up and come in a plethora of different sayings. I've mainly seen them at Barnes and Noble and Amazon. There's plenty of different options to fit any type of personality.

Here's some links to box signs:

6. Mugs

You can never have enough mugs. I have some mugs that I don't drink out of. Their sole purpose is to look pretty with my books. My favorite kind of mugs are campfire mugs (pictured to the left). Their tons of places you can get cute mugs (including campfire mugs) on Amazon and Etsy! (Links below)

This is the one I have, it's currently available on Wayfair!

7. Bookends

Okay, I'm not gonna lie. I only have one bookend, but I definitely want more. Bookends are a fun way to bunch certain books together on top of your shelf or on a shelf with no edges, so that they can still stand up. They come in lots of fun designs nowadays. The picture on the left is of my bookend, which is available from Wayfair.
